NTT DATA and Hospital Sant Pau, winners of the Ennova Health Awards

The third edition of the Ennova Health Awards, prestigious awards presented by Diario Médico and Correo Farmacéutico to recognize digital initiatives that add value, contribute to sustainability, and improve patient lives, has honored NTT DATA and Hospital Sant Pau this year in the Digital Transformation category. This notable recognition is a result of the virtual reality project applied to schizophrenia patients, developed through the NAKA platform.

On November 20th, this prestigious award was received during a ceremony held at the Real Teatro de Retiro in Madrid. We invite you to discover more about this exciting project!

Virtual Reality to improve functionality in patients with schizophrenia

The Digital Health Institute of NTT DATA collaborates with the Clinical Validation Center for Digital Solutions at Sant Pau Hospital in Barcelona and the Barcelona Health Hub (BHH) to drive and execute innovation projects in the field of digital health. The first project resulting from this collaboration involves the co-creation of a use case for the application of virtual reality (VR) technology. A virtual reality asset has been developed as part of this initiative, specifically applied to mental health treatments, aimed at mitigating issues associated with schizophrenia.

The award-winning solution is a project of a digital therapeutic tool co-created with healthcare professionals from the hospital and experts in this NTT DATA technology, designed to complement standard treatments. This tool provides immersive environments and focuses on improving the functionality, autonomy, and cognitive symptoms of patients with schizophrenia.

Immersive and interactive environments expose patients to everyday situations that they need to practice as habits. Thanks to this, they can improve their autonomy and skills in a controlled and highly motivating environment.

Virtual Reality, a potential ally for mental health

Virtual reality is emerging as a potential complement to mental health treatments. VR therapy is designed to take place in the hospital, with sessions involving professionals, allowing for immersive, safe, and interactive environments that can help patients relax, meditate, and alleviate feelings of anxiety. And not only that: it would be feasible to use this powerful technology as a learning tool to provide patients with key information about the disease, as well as behavioral recommendations. For this reason, in this initial phase, the implementation of virtual reality would be a crucial support for clinical and healthcare staff in the treatment of patients with schizophrenia.

We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to Diario Médico and Correo Farmacéutico for the recognition of this exciting project in the Ennova Health Awards. This award means a lot to NAKA and NTT DATA and serves as a powerful impetus to continue our commitment to innovation and contribution in the field of health.
